The Consulate General of China in New York hosted a reception at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia on January 19 to celebrate 2017 Chinese Lunar New Year, with the China National Tourist Office (CNTO) New York coordinating a joint tourism promotion. The reception was attended by Ambassador Zhang Qiyue, Consul General of China in New York; Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenny; and compatriots and friends from Pennsylvania. In the spirit of the Chinese New Year, CNTO New York presented signature 2017 Chinese New Year scarves, along with tourism brochures, to all attendees. At the conclusion, a few lucky winners walked out with amazing prizes such as round trip flights to China and a Yangtze River cruise vacation. 2017 marks the third consecutive “Year of Silk Road Tourism.” Throughout the year, China will hold large-scale Silk Road-themed festivals and exhibitions. As the air capacity between the U.S. and China continues to grow, and with the hope that Philadelphia will soon open its first direct flight to China, the bilateral tourism exchange between the U.S. and China is expected to reach new heights.
