CNTA has 15 overseas tourist offices around the world including three
in North America:
New York, Los Angeles and Toronto.
CNTA is the governmental tourism organization directly regulated by
the State Council, whose responsibility is to promote and administer
China's tourism industry. There are also provincial and local tourism
administrations accordingly.
Tourism in China is a booming industry. In
the year 2002, a total of 97.91 million people visited China and China's
international tourism revenue was 20.4 billion U.S. dollars. It has
become one of the fastest growing sectors for China's economy.
Like the other overseas tourist offices, CNTO in New York and Los
Angeles are a non-profit government organization. Its mission is to
develop and promote all aspects of tourism to China within United
States. It is responsible for educating both the general public and
the travel industry about China, which is achieved through travel
trade shows, consumer shows, seminars, familiarization trips and other
ongoing promotions.
The CNTO in New York and Los Angeles assist travel agents and tour
operators in selling China to Americans by providing them with sales
tools, including travel brochures, videos, displays and other materials.
CNTO in New York and Los Angeles also provide travel brochures, maps
and general information to the public.
