Chengde’s proximity to Beijing (and the Beijing Capital International Airport) means there’s only a small-scale airport in the south of the city. Only non-scheduled chartered flights operate between these two cities though, so the best way to get from Chengde to Beijing is by a long-distance bus ride – a three-to-four hour trip from the Chengde bus station to Beijing and fly out from the Beijing Capital International Airport.
In addition to Beijing, long-distance buses also connect Chengde to nearby cities such as Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, and Zhangjiakou daily via the city’s highways which also link to Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, and others.
The Chengde Railway Station is located in the southeast of the city where the Beijing-Chengde, Shijiazhuang-Chengde and Shenyang-Chengde railways meet. The Beijing-Dandong and Beijing South Railway Station-Ulanhot express trains also pass through Chengde. Lastly, taxis are a relatively inexpensive way to get around the city.
