Kunming Changshui International Airport is China’s 4th national hub airport after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Presently, there are 17 airlines companies in the airport providing flights to domestic cities and international cities and regions, including Beijing, Chengdu, Guilin, Lhasa, Shanghai, Sanya, Xian, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok, and more.
The city has four railway stations. The main one is the Nanyao Station, about four kilometers (about 2.5 miles) from the center of the city.
Nine subway lines are being built in Kunming City which will connect the major passenger distribution centers around the city. Currently, four lines are under construction, including line 1, line 2, line 3, and line 6. The first phase of line 6 has already been in operation since June, 2012, and the south section of the first phase of line 1 has been in trial operation since February, 2013. Passengers can take subway line 6 to travel between the East Bus Station and the Airport Center.

Taxis are a convenient means of getting ground and are plentiful at the airport and in the city. Each taxi has a distinctive animal image that helps identify taxi ownership in case passengers forget an item.
