Sanya has a reputation of having the most well-preserved and beautiful beaches in all of China and has become the Oriental Hawaii. Its favorable climate, wonderful sunshine, seawater, beaches, green vegetation and fresh air helps it top the list of coastal cities in the country.

Tianyahaijiao
Located about 23 km southwest of Sanya City, this beach is simply picturesque with beautiful coconut trees and fantastic stones of various sizes. At the beach are several huge rocks with Chinese characters on them, stating the “end of the earth”, the “corner of the sea” and the “first pillar on southern Heaven”. Tianyahaijiao is probably the most famous scenic spot on Hainan Island.

Yalong Bay
Stretching along 7.5-kilometer (4.7 miles), Yalong Bay offers a taste of paradise and is one of the most famous scenic spots in Hainan Province. Endless rolling hills, serene gulfs, clear blue sea, silvery sand beaches make this bay the ideal getaway spot. Yalong Bay has several well-preserved coral reefs with tropical fish of various kinds, colors and shapes. The ocean water here is crystal clear, allowing visitors to view underwater sights up to 10 meters (33 feet) deep from the surface.

Nanshan Hill Cultural Tourism Zone in Sanya
About 20 km southwest of Sanya, this cultural tourism zone is a large theme park that is popular for its tropical sea landscape, Chinese Buddhist sculpture, and historical sites. The main tourist attractions here include the Golden and Jade Statue of Avalokitesvara and the largest ink stone which have been included in the Guinness World Records. This seaside Avalokitesvara statue is 108 m high, in addition to the largest vegetarian restaurant in Hainan Province.

Wuzhizhou Island
With an irregular butterfly-like shape and a total coastline of 5.7 km (3.54 miles), the island is about 30 km (18.6 miles) northeast of Sanya City. As well as the Goddess Matsu Temple, there are many places of interest to visit including the Lover’s Bridge, Sunrise Rock, Gold Turtle Stretching toward the Sea, Lover’s Island and the Life Well. The Sunrise Rock is the ideal spot from which to observe the sunrise. For extreme sports fans facilities include surfing, gliding, sailing and canoeing. Wuzhizhou Island is famous for scuba diving as coral reefs and brightly colored tropical fish abound in the warm water.
