Shanxi

Shanxi, “Jin” for short, is located in the west of the Taihang Mountains and east of Yellow River. It has a population of more than 34 million people.  In the Spring and Autumn Period of Chinese history, the territory was mostly owned by the state of Jin, hence the reason Shanxi is also called “Jin”. Shanxi is one of the birthplaces of China, and it has a vast historic and cultural heritage. According to written records it has a history of about 3,000 years. It has been known as the “Museum of Ancient Chinese Culture” and “Cradle of Chinese Civilization”.

As a mountainous area, Shanxi is the only province in China with one of Top Five Mountains; one of Top Five Towns; and one of Top Four Buddhist Mountains.
