The Great Wall Marathon has been held annually at the Huangyaguan section of the Great Wall every May since 1999. It is one of the most challenging marathons in the world. Huangyaguan literally means “Yellow Cliff Pass.”
During the marathon, participants climb thousands of stone steps varying in length and size with several steep ascents and descents throughout the course. The Great Wall Marathon is a unique physical test surrounded by breathtaking sights in a historic setting. In addition to the main 42 km race, there also are half marathon and 8.5 km races.
