Not so much a one-off shindig as a multiday, firework-filled celebration of epic proportions, Chinese New Year is the single most important event in the calendar, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are all good places to join in the rampant festivities – expect lion dances, seasonal delicacies, street gatherings and no shortage of heaving crowds.
