Shaolin Temple

Learn the history of Chinese Zen Buddhism and enjoy the Shaolin Kung Fu at Shaolin Temple

For centuries, orange-robe-clad Buddhist monks have trained day and night to study kungfu inside the ancient walls of the Shaolin Temple. Nestled in the lush Song Mountains, the Shaolin Temple was founded in the fifth century as a shrine for Mahayana Buddhists. Amongst the leafy courtyards and colorful prayer halls you will discover the secrets of the Shaolin Monks such as the ‘finger punching tree’, where one tree’s trunk is peppered with small holes from monks practicing “one finger punches”. A trip to this temple is not complete without a stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage Pagoda Forest, an open courtyard blanketed by hundreds of stone pagodas.
