Smart City Program – New Form of Smart Tourism in China

Wanning, a coastal city on China’s southern tropical island of Hainan Province, has been exploring a new opportunity in tourism with the new wave of “smart-city construction” in China.

As one of the 193 trial cities that has been approved by the central urban planning authorities in China over the past year to develop into a “smart city,” Wanning city government would invest in updates and construction to bring the city to the forefront of tourist experiences. This includes services and technology to integrate information on food, lodging and shopping services for tourists, making their visit to a destination more easily navigable and therefore more enjoyable.

The smart city program, initiated last November in China, is part of the country’s efforts to foster a new type of urbanization and provide a better experience for visitors to China.
