Summer Palace Royal Theater Re-opens to the Public

After 18 months of renovations, Deheyuan (the Garden of Virtuous Harmony), a theater located in the Summer Palace in Beijing, has been reopened to the public. Built originally in 1750AD during the Qing Dynasty, the Empress Dowager Cixi deemed it the royal opera theater. The theater at Deheyuan is the largest – and now best-preserved – ancient theater building in China. Visitors to Deheyuan can tour the grounds, where architecture, wooden decoration, a number of ancient items and more are display. In addition, operas are performed daily from 9am to 4pm.
