Genghis Khan once rode across this storied country’s vast grasslands, through its deserts and mountain ranges. Mongolia is a relatively unexplored frontier for travelers.  It retains its rustic character and promises a unique adventure for anyone.

Ulaanbaatar is the crossroads of Mongolia and your entry point to this rugged and beautiful country.  The capital provides a comprehensive introduction to Mongolia’s history and culture.  Sükhbaatar Square is the center of Ulaanbaatar, and it features monuments to figures from Mongolia’s history, both ancient and modern.  The capital is also home to attractions such as the extraordinary Winter Palace of Bogd Khan and the Gadan Monastery.

National parks near Ulaanbaatar provide the opportunity to experience some uniquely Mongolian natural habitats.  The Khustain Nuruu Nature Reserve became the site for the reintroduction of Mongolia’s native takhi horse after it was nearly hunted to extinction.

Then, travel to Inner Mongolia. Highlights include the city of Hohhot, known for the Temple of Five Pagodas, Ordos City, where the Genghis Khan Mausoleum is located, and Yinchuan, famous for the Western Xia Tombs.
